the absence of a photograph in my folder is not the absence of a bird.
This was, for about an afternoon, the most compelling question in the notebook. Have you seen a baby pigeon? Most people i asked had not. I had an entire theory about adult units leaving the assembly line.
Then came the obvious objection: young pigeons spend their early lives in nests that pedestrians generally do not see. By the time they are out walking around, they look much more like the pigeons we recognize. Not seeing them is not the same as their not existing.
I could remove this page and pretend it never happened. Instead, i am leaving it beside the much more interesting question of why i accepted the factory explanation before i considered looking for a nest.
